In the homeland of Dutch designer Hella Jongerius, a ‘polder’ refers to an area of land, usually subdivided into fields for agriculture, reclaimed from the sea by the construction of dykes and drainage ditches. With its flat surface and pronounced horizontality evoking the characteristics of this type of landscape, the Polder Sofa Vitra features an unusual asymmetrical shape and a carefully crafted combination of colours, materials and textures. Thanks to these discreet colour compositions, the Polder sofa fits perfectly into any interior. The light or dark buttons, made from natural materials, accentuate the colours of the sofa. The Polder Sofa has an integrated low armrest on one side and an open surface on the other, which can also be used to store magazines, books or trays. All covers of the Polder Vitra sofa are removable.
