Designed by Franco Raggi in 1988, the Canton bench has two open compartments on each side, which can be used to store magazines, books or directories – still widely used at the time. Canton is a functional bench ideally designed for home entrances. Published by Poltronova, the bank Canton was born out of a graphic exercise. Franco Raggi writes: « a black line which, in its continuous path, creates two squares linked by a horizontal line. By dragging this line into the third dimension, I realised that the solid obtained could be a bench, not a comfortable seat, but intended for temporary use, where ergonomics could be sacrificed in favour of an abstract image ».Today, the banc Canton has become a design classic.
