The tables by Eero Saarinen, designed in the 1950s, are among the cult pieces of furniture in the history of design. Here, Knoll International aims to free up space under the table and chair, suggesting freedom of movement. The idea behind the Saarinen table is simple, but the result is an elegant, timeless table that has lost its four legs and replaced them with a well-designed base. The Saarinen table is a solution devised by Eero Saarinen, against the « ugly, confusing and troubled world ». Timeless, copied but never equalled, it combines sobriety and elegance and is at home in any type of interior. The Saarinen table is equally at home in a dining room or a conference room. With its tulip-like shape, softening and embellishing interiors, its silhouette is instantly recognisable, and is therefore considered one of the classics of design. The top of the Saarinen table is characterised by a bevelled edge that accentuates its lightness, whatever its size. The frame is made of cast aluminium and has a Rilsan surface coating.
