GamFratesi designed the Epic coffee table for Gubi as a sculptural piece of furniture inspired by Greek columns and Roman architecture and named after the epic poems of antiquity. Epic now comes in an Outdoor version, making it the ideal table for decorating your terraces and gardens. Crafted in Italy from quartzite, the monolithic form emphasizes the stone’s materiality, the natural beauty of its veins, and the vibrant texture of its unique patina—in which a new detail can be discovered with each use. Inspired by historical examples of travertine constructions such as the Colosseum and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and by the revival of this material in the 1970s in Southern Europe, the Epic Outdoor table combines two simple geometric shapes—circle and hexagon—with references to the classical Greek column. The different diameters of the Epic table series allow for the creation of compositions of several tables or for use alone.
