Alvar Aalto is one of the most important figures in 20th century design and architecture. He created his own style inspired by man and nature. Aalto believed that good design should be part of everyday life and, with this in mind, created products that had multiple uses, were sensitive and improved everyday life. He never indicated how his glass objects were to be used, wanting users to decide their purpose for themselves. The undulating, flowing, organic shapes of the objects in this collection evoke the thousands of lakes that punctuate Finnish landscapes. The glassblowers at manufacturer Iittala still handcraft these legendary vases of serene beauty. The Aalto vase is available in several heights and comes in a range of colours. Since its presentation in 1937 at the Paris Universal Exhibition, the Aalto collection has become a veritable masterpiece.
